Possessions and Sleep Parlysis

Possessions

So these are the spirits of objects with and without life that have the ability to control or tamper with a persons mental state. Anything made of material has a spirit and it is the collection of spirits that also lead to greater possessions. Within human society these possessions have appeared as devils and other sorts of monsters that claim the human mental psyche, preventing normal behavior. Other examples of possessions in human society are the religious kind, which are allowed by law in this country (USA), and are dealt with if unstable in a private manner.

A more current example is that of therapy where a person becomes possessed by their mental state and is unable to break free without some guidance about what is causing the disturbance within themselves. Normally though this guidance is only sought after and that is why most of these possessions are similar to those of a religious kind, in that they are facilitated in a private manner. We have had a large succession of mental hospitals, therapy offices and psychiatry offices in this country and their popularity only seems to grow.

This need for privacy is respected in society because mass possession is not often thought about, even though it is becoming more of a discussion in the post-WWII world. People are given their rights for liberty and this is of much more importance than the possibility of something that can chain our mental state. These bindings that are in response to possessions are known as laws, and they are bounded by reason including reason of different states of possessions.

Many laws are not discussed or thought about by the public but for those in power they are revised constantly and acted upon through the justice department, the police, private investigations, and the federal bureaus including all persons of the law. Local organizations also develop policy of etiquette between themselves and their community's of operation. In times of great misfortune though the community may operate to develop with organizations what policies they have in contract with one another to prevent shortcomings in the future. Revolt could be another answer by the community but if sustained for too long will self-destruct.

A more medical case of possession is that of sleep paralysis which is a case that is still untreated in the western world. If we look to recent human conceptions of this possession their is a fascination that seems to harken back to possessions of the devil as well. John Henry Fuseli's painting of the incubus sitting on the woman with the nightmare represented by the horse in the curtains captured the attention of all the world and still serves as an effective interpretation of this possession. But is there anyway to treat this mental state? By introducing some new terms I think we can better explain the problem of sleep paralysis. The psychologist Wilhem Reich describes the importance of maintaining a balanced sexuality to explain his functionalism of the orgone, or the orgastic potential of a living organism. The orgone is a type of energy related to our drive and by misdirecting it we can cause neurosis for our self. Reich attributes this misdirection by an armor which humans create for themselves which the drive has to break through to continue momentum. Here is a picture of the functionalism of the orgone. The dot represents sexual energy and see how the drive splits into two arrows which are then met by an armor or flow out into space through time.

My interpretation of the causal issues behind sleep paralysis is a sexual one because I do see how some neurosis could be attributed to sexuality, but as opposed to Reich I do not see it as being attributed to all neurosis. For this case though, yes it does. The victim, who perceives themselves to be subjected to perpetual outside sexual force, would most likely begin to view sexuality as something outside of themselves. I have been told on a couple occasions now of people seeing small gremlin like forms that chew fingernails or make strange noises while the victim of this mental possession lies unable to move their body. This drives the mind into a state of fear that during regular times of day is repressed by reality. In darkness form is much desired because there is fear in the emptiness of the darkness. Many war veterans are afraid of the dark because they understand the illusion of its emptiness, they have been attacked when they least expected it, or they were trained to be awoken by the slightest sound even when there is nothing to see.

This force does not necessarily even have to be real, a person suffering could have no sexual partners. The more removed from reality though the more difficult it becomes to explain this possession of sexuality, and the stronger the possession is. The only way to re-order this mental state would be by the incorporation of time towards accepting yourself as you currently are.  This is definitely something that should be studied further and more data should be collected on different cases.
